Some hints for assembling the http://diybookscanner.eu base kit

  • Hammering in the bearings quickly and evenly. Just hammer the bearing in a tiny bit, then turn the wooden part over. The bearings are now on the bottom side of the part, facing your work surface. Hit the wooden part with your hammer. The bearings will be pushed in much more easily and evenly.

  • When assembling for use with the A2200 scanners, drill a 16mm diameter hole on the right side of the linear hole for the camera UNC hole. Align the left side with the right end of the straight line. Align the bottom side with the bottom line. TODO: picture. For drilling a hole in it, first clamp a piece of scrap wood to the bottom side. If you don't do that, wood splintering will make the bottom side a lot less clean.

  • You might want to use two washers in most places instead of one as described in the original assembly manual.
