Topics & Notes

Check past action items

  • #77 Discussion in the OSEP WG that we have a guide on how to review change management.
  • Action items are migrated to github issues.

June workshop registration and further planning

  • Registration is here: https://forms.gle/HV9ciQTcbkSwLZ1BA
  • June 4-5 in Lund (Sweden)
  • More information in last TSC meeting minutes.
  • Some topic ideas
    • Ask me Anything session (like last workshop)
    • ELISA in world of Software Defined Vehicles (vehicles does not mean "cars" alone)
      • Idea was to have someone from Eclipse SDV invited, but they have their community day in Sindelfingen (Germany) in parallel to our workshop.
      • SDV was even recently used in the field of avionics, so it is also a topic for Aerospace WG. -> Behaviour is driven by Software, but does not mean "on-the-fly" changes
      • How do we perform Software driven behaviour while keeping safety integrity.
      • Consider to have a representative from SOAFEE involved in the workshop.
    • What does SOTIF mean for ELISA?
      • Elektrobit did a nice session about SOTIF on high performance compute during the exida symposium 2023. Maybe they are willing to present something during the ELISA workshop or later as part of the ELISA Seminar Series.
      • Consider for afternoon to have virtual participation by Pete posssible
    • What are technical roadmap topics important for members to be worked on during the next year?
    • Continue to work/discuss on the core parts of the kernel
      • Broader context/alternative question: What are the core parts of a Linux operating system?
        • CIP project may be a special group to ask to get their idea on the core packages and extended packages of a minimal system.
      • Need to get distributor on board of that question.
      • If there is no agreement on a topic (name it filesystems squashfs vs. btrfs, then it is maybe not part of the core)
      • Even a way how to structure the way to come to your core can be an alternative. What is the process for it.
      • Would a non-booting kernel still be a valid core-kernel? What is the hardware underneath?
      • Where does a core-kernel actually help us? What will help us to identify the core-kernel? What are core functions of the kernel?
      • What is the motivation for a core-kernel from a FuSa perspective? What does it make "easier"?
      • AI: TSC follow up: How to prepare for the session to make it productive in the workshop?

Embedded world activities

  • Collabora volunteered to have the demo system setup at their booth.
  • Bosch will bring the the demo suit case to the exhibition and also picks it up.
  • Collabora booth will be close to Zephyr and AGL booth.
  • Option to have it placed at AGL is difficult as demo currently has no real AGL content in.
  • One pager will be at Collabora booth.
  • Further "logistics" will be sorted out in the next weeks.
  • The physical setup and software is running and ready to be shipped to Collabora or embedded world.

plumbers mini-conf

  • Alessandro working on ks-nav and started to imporve some ks-nav part. Would be a nice proposition in a mini-conf at plumbers.
    • Show usage how to look into kernel code and some nice diagrams of the code
  • Plumbers micro-conf deadline is April 4th.
    • CfP: https://lpc.events/event/18/abstracts/
    • Plumbers is in Austria (Vienna) this year 18-20th September
    • Procedure:
      • Send number of topics to be discussed.
      • Be convincing that at least 8 discussion leads will propose topics to discuss.
      • You need to show that it is of wider interest for the kernel community.
      • Need to also show that you started something and that you will make progress.
      • Need significant impact from the kernel community and maintainers.
    • Why not going to OSS EU? -> Want to reach out to the kernel community and not wider audience.
      • Also, plumbers is co-located to OSS EU
    • Need 2-3 people being prepared, e.g. "what is a core-kernel". What kind of investigations will we do.
    • Start to gather additional proposals
      • so far we have ks-nav, what are the other 7 topics?
        • have at least a patch submitted for documentation of the tool.
      • Need enough substance for an own micro-conference. Alternative to join another track which already exists.
        • maybe also go to testing and dependability in case not enough topics.
    • AI: Topics would be needed in the next two weeks and evaluate in the next TSC
      • Which promises can we make until September to be achieved by our own.

First half year topics for webinar series

  • Past webinars on website: https://elisa.tech/seminar-series/
  • Spread the word also to AGL, SOAFEE, Eclipse SDV (like for ISO-PAS 8926)
  • Lukas presents his work from exida symposium - March 12th (currently ~110 registrations already)
  • ASIL-D certified Rust compiler is targeted for - May 8th (will be announced after Lukas' webinar)
  • stress-ng update -> Kate wants to follow up with Collin King
  • Later during the year:
    • Have something about SOTIF, depending on discussions during June workshop.
    • RT webinar once PREEMPT_RT is fully mainline.
    • ELISA user story by a company.

Coding day ideas for timing and content

  • depending on content we may need to have different co-location (e.g. more safety or more kernel or integrator)
  • Next possible chance to co-locate with Eclipse SDV would be towards end of the year (due to schedule conflicts)
  • Topic for next TSC meeting

AoB

  • Canonical joined as a new ELISA member. Already forwarded the invitation for the workshop to them.
  • Presentation from Alessandro sent via mail thread. Not yet in public repo. Alessandro still requires editing rights for LFSCS WG repo.
