Description

This PR merges branch 4.10.0 into master, as part of the 4.8.1 post-release tasks.

Caution

Do not merge this PR.

It points to 4.10.0 in purpose only to shown the current differences between master and 4.10.0. master is a few upstream version behind and must be regenrerated from the 4.10.0 branch (force-push) to bring it up to date.
