Cause 1: Proxy server
If you use a proxy server on your Android device (e.g. AdBlock Plus or similar apps that manipulate network traffic), this can cause Syncthing to get stuck on the 'Waiting for API' screen. At this time we have no confirmation on Syncthing's compatibility with proxy servers.
To check or disable your proxy server:
- Open Settings
- Tap Wi-Fi
- Longpress the wifi network you're connected to, then tap Modify Network
- Check the 'Show advanced options' checkbox
- Ensure Proxy is set to None.
After disabling the proxy:
- Open Settings
- Tap Apps
- Swipe to the Running list
- Tap Syncthing (if it's present)
- Tap Stop and ensure Syncthing no longer appears in the list of running apps
- Run Syncthing again
