LOWTRAN7 is a 1992 program that underlies the proprietary MODTRAN program. For many applications, LOWTRAN is at least initially adequate for broadband sensors needing to model transmission and absorption. Lowtran7 highest resolution is frequency step of 5 cm^-1.

A currently ongoing project is modeling a horizontal path using local atmospheric measurements.
