ESP-01_Roomba

MODIFIED VERSION TO FIX 2 PROBLEMS:

  • WIFI reconnection problem (please check first your hardware, some ESP01 have serious problem with WIFI);
  • Wake UP Roomba 500 with lastest firmware 3.8.2 which introduce POWER SAVING MODE (the same present in all newst series as 600, 700, 900); this could be a problem to comand Roomba via ESP when Roomba is sleeping...

An arduino program to add MQTT commands to your roomba 500 or 600 series.

Parts: ESP-01: https://amzn.to/2qVB2p8 PNP Transistors: https://amzn.to/2FaUfrS Buck Converters: https://amzn.to/2K7FY33 (choice high quality DC-DC buck converter because power supply of Roomba is very unstable and it can burst resistor of your buck converter)

HOWTO TO PROCEED:

  1. FIRST, BE SURE POWER SUPPLY OF DC DC BUCK CONVERTER HAVE GOOD QUALITY AND OUTPUT IS AT 3,2V;
  2. SECOND, BE SURE WIRING ARE OK (please see attached photos)!
  3. TEST YOUR FIRMWARE

If you have more Roomba to control, you have to change Roomba MQTT name in definition lines of the ESP firmware and in switch name of configuration.yaml file.

Troubleshooting

Between each configuration/connection I suggest to do a factory default reset to be sure the roomba isn't in a strange/wrong state (ex. safe mode): you can do it please press and Hold the Dock and Spot button down for 10 seconds then release. I notice a strange state where to wake up and start to clean I have to press clean button for 3 or 4 times; after reset procedure all work fine and Roomba seem to wake up fine! This problem can prevent to start scheduled cleaning!

Many china products broke itself very soon (ex. buck converter), verify input/outpout voltage!
