Mathjax v2.3 feature discussion

MathJax v2.3 will be a small font-focused release.

Targets

• Create webfonts for various open source fonts
  • STIX
  • Asana
  • NeoEuler
  • Latin Modern
• Create fontdata of new fonts for use with MathJax
  • all newly created webfonts
  • How about Lucida Sans, Apple symbol fonts, Arial unicode? pkra: probably not this time around?
• enabling webfonts in native MathML output on Firefox.
• Improve MathJax fonts
  • improve character coverage
    • via javascript tricks
    • by adding characters
  • drop PNG fonts?
• Testing
  • Testing the quality of the conversion process
  • Testing the rendering quality via the test suite.

Open questions:

• Legal
  • Are we facing licensing issues?
  • E.g., if the SIL open font license is used we have to get permission to keep the name, perferrably by contributing back (as we do for STIX) or else create a new name.
