LogWizard - Toggles

I developed LogWizard to show you as much information as possible - at any time, you can choose to remove any clutter information you don't care about. There are four panes in LogWizard:

  • Left Pane - This, by default, is the Filter Pane. It contains all the Filters in the Current View. It enables editing filters and to easily enable/disable them.
  • Source Pane (Top Pane) - This contains information about the Log Source - the file name, its line syntax, and what template to apply (the template contains all the Views that are shown). These are all advanced topics - and you'll very seldom need them. One thing to note is when you want to change the name of the current View. You will toggle this Pane ON, and you will notice below the tabs, the label "View" and a text box with the name of the current View - just type in there whatever you want to change the View to. Then, toggle the Pane OFF.
  • Current View Pane (Middle Pane) - This contains the current View.
  • Full Log Pane (Right Pane) - This contains all lines in the Log. As an added bonus, you'll see the "View(s)" column - which for each line, shows what Views match it. It can be very useful when you find a culprit line and you want to see what happened before and after it.

You will usually want to see at most two panes: The Current View Pane and/or The Full Log Pane. Say Hi to Toggling Hotkeys:

  • Alt-F - Toggle Filter Pane ON/OFF
  • Alt-O - Toggle s[O]urce Pane ON/OFF
  • Alt-L - Toggle Current View Pane/Full Log Pane (rotate between CV-only <-> CV/FL <-> FL-only)
  • Alt-T - Toggle Title ON/OFF. If you toggle this OFF, I remove the title + border + the lower pane where Toggles, History and a few other buttons are shown.

But LogWizard is way more powerful than just the above:

  • To easily remember - All Toggle Hotkeys are Alt-[letter] hotkeys
  • You can access all Toggles with the "Toggles" button on the bottom-left
  • If the title is toggled off (thus, the "Toggles" button is not visible), you can right-click on the "Bug" icon (on top-right), and you get access to the Toggles again
  • The "Toggles" menu reminds you about the hotkeys, by showing the hotkey letter in [] brackets. For instance, we show you [S]tatus, to hint that you can also use Alt-S for the same effect

I've created these toggles to give you the most flexibility - to maximize your view space - you just look at what's important to you, without any other overhead.

Here are all the toggles:

  • Current View - Toggle Current View Pane on/off. Note that at least one of the Current View/Full Log panes will always be visible.
  • Full Log - Toggle Full Log Pane on/off. Note that at least one of the Current View/Full Log panes will always be visible.
  • Table Header - Toggles the Header (which shows the columns) on/off
  • View Tabs - Toggles showing the Tabs on/off. You can of course toggle them off to save some space. If you toggle them off, the name of the current view is shown in the Header (in the Message column).
  • Title - Toggles the Title + lower buttons + history on/off (again, to save space)
  • Status - Toggles the Status information on/off. Usually you see here information about the current log, when it's loading, filters, searches. If there's an error, and you have it toggled off, it will toggle itself back on temporarily - so you can read the error.
  • Filter Pane - Toggles the Filter Pane on/off. If turned on, it enables you to edit the filters for the current view.
  • Notes Pane - Toggles the Notes Pane on/off. If turned on, you can write notes on log lines (in case you spot problems). Several people can write notes on a specific log, and notes are automatically merged.
  • Source Pane - Toggles the Source pane on/off.
  • Topmost - Toggles whether LogWizard is top-most or not
  • Details - Toggles the Details pane. The Details pane is a place where you can see more information about the current log message. You can hide columns that are too big to see in the View, and show them in the Details pane. Also, note that it's totally ok to have a certain column both in the View and in the Details pane. The awesome thing about this is you can easily edit what gets shown here, and you can have several "Details" templates, and switch between them.
