Showcase Discussion

This is a page for discussing setting up a "Showcase" repository.

What should the repository name be?

(tgrey): I think "Showcase" or "CsoundShowcase", tho all repositories in the csound org are lowercase, so maybe "showcase" or "csoundshowcase"?

An old repository of complete works:

http://freaknet.org/martin/audio/csound/

(tgrey): I will start emailing authors to ask for permission to include these. I will cc Dr.B on examples that are his students as well.

https://csound.com/listen.html

(menno) why not expand this csound music place with csds and downloads?

(tgrey): i think linking to the github repository there is a great idea, i also think having rendered versions on soundcloud, youtube, bandcamp, etc linked here would be great too. but the more i use github the more i think it makes sense to store the actual code here (version/revision control, issue tracking, etc).

Logistics: Do we become the caretakers of the repository, or should we grant access to anyone that wants to add material so they can edit or delete it as needed? (tgrey): it's more work to maintain it privately with volunteers, but not much. i vote for it being maintained by us (and whoever else volunteers) rather than leaving it to composers.

Submissions: (tgrey): I liked Menno's idea of sending out requests regularly, almost like John's friendly reminder about the mailing list. If we have a template README.md for new projects, we could drop in the user's info and put the files in github with very little effort.

Feel free to add anything you think is missing.

My thoughts on relevant info to include:

  • Composer Name
  • Composer contact info
  • Date created
  • Csound version originally created or tested on
  • Compile instructions (probably obvious, but to keep it friendly for beginners)
  • Additional notes from the composer
