This repository contains documentation on the progress The Carpentries is making towards its Strategic Plan for 2020-2025. It is intended to provide transparency to the Carpentries community.
The Carpentries Strategic Plan, lays out six broad goals, each with its rationale and underlying objectives, that will serve as touchpoints to guide our future actions. The Strategic Plan provides a general framework for the direction of this organisation for the next 3-5 years. This Strategic Plan speaks to The Carpentries as a whole. Each of the individual Lesson Programs – Data Carpentry, Library Carpentry, and Software Carpentry – may also have their own goals and objectives related to their specific programs and curricula.
This repository is organized as follows:
-
issues: information about projects and ongoing work The Carpentries is undertaking related to the strategic plan. Each issue is tagged with one or more labels:
- team - identifies which team leads the work (i.e. Business, Community Development, Curriculum, Executive/EC, Infrastructure, Instructor Training, Membership, Workshop Administration)
- quarter - identifies which quarter the project or ongoing work occurs
- goal - identifies which strategic goal the project or ongoing work aligns with.
- assignee - identifies the Core Team Lead for the team that is leading the work.
-
project board: presents a basic kanban style view of work as follows: in progress, upcoming, future work, and completed
We recommend filtering the issues in this repository by either team, quarter, or goal to have a more pared down understanding of the work that is being done. Alternatively, you can look at the project view to see what work is in progress, upcoming, or what has been completed.
If you would like to contribute to the work outlined in The Carpentries Strategic Plan repository, there are three ways you can do so:
- Comment on an open issue in this repository. This is appropriate if you would like to provide feedback on one of the current projects/ongoing work currently listed in the issues.
- File a new issue in this repository. This is appropriate if you would like to start a new conversation about a suggestion you have, ask a question about ongoing work, or give feedback about an issue that has not been previously filed in this repository.
- Send us an email. This is appropriate for communicating directly with the Core Team about the Strategic Plan.
