  1. refactor: do not depend on revision variables 

    The commit removes variables `BASE_REVISION` and `UPGRADE_REVISION`
from the `test_node_upgrade.py` file. The revisions don't need to be
version strings, but also branches or commit hashes. Handling the
revisions as version strings can be problematic.
