B.C. = Before Code for Africa
Work done before Code for Africa took over development.
Brief History
GMMP started off being developed by the excellent team over at @OpenUpSA (https://github.com/OpenUpSA/gmmp) working under Media Monitoring Africa (MMA). After a while, MMA contracted (unconfirmed but commit history and other anecdotal evidence seems to point to this) @opendatadurban to take over development here (https://github.com/opendatadurban/gmmp).
Choice to Import vs Fork
Unlike most (if not all) our projects, for this repository, we have chosen to import the code instead of fork. This is because the "owner" (WACC paid MMA for the work) of the software sent us a copy on Google Drive. We are therefore using this release to recognize the work already done by the two earlier teams.
Future Plans and Continued Attribution
Code for Africa is excited to work on this project with the teams at WACC and hopes to continue to contribute effectively to the global open source community. If you have any ideas on improvements or pitfalls we should watch out for, feel free to create a GitHub issue. We shall also continue to attribute @OpenUpSA's and @opendatadurban's contribution to this project.
