Lodestone MOUSE

Az edited this page Aug 15, 2024 · 17 revisions

This is a modded FMOUSE that produces your audio as a magnetic field over the two mouse buttons. This way you can get two-channel haptic feedback while using it. It connects over Bluetooth and routes your audio through two inductors right beneath your fingertips. This feedback is actively amplified for significantly stronger feedback.

Parts

  • An FMOUSE | Source
  • A small Bluetooth audio amplifier PAM8406 | Source example
  • 2* 0510 axial inductor: 1 mH | 5.9 measured Ohms | Source example
  • Thin wires, 0.28mm enameled copper wires for example
  • 3D printer

Assembly

  • Start by disassembling the mouse. This is made pretty easy thanks to the magnetic cover and standard screws. Unplug the battery and pull the white plastic connector off the two pins. Carefully straighten the two pins.

  • On the underside of the PCB solder wires to the pads as in the pictures. This will be the power for our little Bluetooth module.

  • Connect the inductors to the Bluetooth module's output with short wires (long enough to reach from the back to the front of the mouse).

  • Assemble the mouse. The Bluetooth module is packed in the same space as the battery. Its power wires have to be routed down somewhere along the edge of the PCB. The inductors come in last and can be glued next to the mouse buttons. They should be as close to the fingertip as possible but not block the button's movement. Test carefully before gluing them down!

  • The original battery cover won't fit both the battery and the amplifier. Use the 3D file here to replace it. The print is better upside-down and will require some support for the screw holes.

**You're done **🎉 Now connect both the mouse and the audio module and try it!
