This has been a long-time no-go for me because it would require the GPS (fine location) permission on Android. With the new dynamic permission system established in Android 6, I think this is something that one could move forward with.

The challenge I see is this:

• a one-off position report will be imprecise (after firing up GPS it usually takes ~30s to get a good location)
• periodic position updates will drain the battery really quickly
• I don't like Google's "smart" location services because they are based on leaking your local info to Google

Can it use location detection over the network instead of using GNSS?
