For the settings pages in the WordPress administration area we have a few fields for setting a date format. And we have trouble finding a way to make these settings clear for screen reder users. Screen readers handle announcing dashes, slashes and commas differently, but also some interpunction is omitted.

This is about choosing a format, with dashes, commas and slahes, not by the date format itself.
For a standalone example of the settings page see the Date Format fieldset:
https://wpaccessibility.github.io/test-forms/options-general.html

Is there a way to let a screen reader pronounce the commas, dashed and slashes properly.
Or do you have suggestions on how to improve this?
