isnt it written in the readme ... ?
you have to make a file in macs folder which is executeable .. and this have to be in your git .. the commit-nr have to be in modules of your gluon - firmware .. so, by this way every treatment have to be public.
no secret treatments for single nodes with this solution package

So "having your own repo", means "a clone/fork". Or is it some "just the job repository" which i do not understand where to reference?

actually its a fork, but you can clone it in the gluon folder and just add your changings, than the modules part is obsolete
