Which issue is preventing the 64GB model from using Bazzite? #232
-
Hey all, just grabbed a steam deck I plan to eventually install Bazzite & upgrade the SSD anyway; but I noticed the note on the README:
However, my google-fu is failing me and I can't find any other references in documentation or the commit log; so I'm keen what the progress update there is or if the issue can be linked? 😄 Thanks for the great work here, long-time Sericea user so I'm keen to ostree more devices 🙏 |

I can't exactly pinpoint the cause but I can talk about the symptoms, but the maintainers think it has do with a newer kernel issue. You will have filesystem corruption errors on just about every other boot. The errors output like your drive is dying, but this actually isn't the case especially since I have been using SteamOS w/ the BTRFS payload ( just for good measure if BTRFS was the issue, it's not) for about a month after testing now, and no issues. In my experience testing the Bazzite Steam Deck image on my 64GB, once you got past the boot you were kind of alright for the most part. I have had other issues like switching to Desktop Mode hanging and one hard crash, but keep in mind this was during the pre-release testing phase before ISOs were distributed. I can confirm this still happens because a user posted this screenshot of the discord with the same booting errors and said they are using a 64GB eMMC Steam Deck. I guess if anyone was desperate enough to use Bazzite with their 64GB, they can. It might just take about 5-10 minutes of actually getting it to boot, a lot of hard resets, wear/tear to the device, and a lot of potential data loss. Once you get past the booting with some really inconsistent chance then it seemed to function normally. There's also this issue with someone attempting to use their Steam Deck's 64GB eMMC drive on their raspberry pi and also having boot issues. |

Ah I see, thanks for the detailed report! I'll try and do some digging when mine arrives, but like I said in OP I'll be upgrading the SDD soon-ish. Thanks! |
