Cannot find module '@angular/core' or its corresponding type declarations

I am using angular-imask 6.4.2 with angular 13.3.5 and I get the following typescript error when I try to add the IMaskModule to my app.module.ts:

Cannot find module '@angular/core' or its corresponding type declaration

There is no @types/angular-imask package available => any suggestions how this could be solved?
