Steps I am doing to try and reproduce

  1. Start with existing hotmail account rtanglao2024 AT hotmail.com
  2. Delete the account in Thunderbird 115, Windows 11 (hamburger > Account Settings > Remove Account)
  3. Re-add it and see if if there is an issue with sending and receiving email (Hamburgers > New Account > Existing Email; leave Password field empty; click Continue)

Results

  • and of it course it worked

Possible reasons for the Original Poster's error

"I setup an Office 365 email address, but it messed up in the setup. I was able to OAuth Verify the incoming settings, but Thunderbird errored to before finalizing the smtp. " <-- IMAP or POP is fine but SMTP is misconfigured

  • Incorrect Time of January 1st (see Screenshot below) caused the problem
  • Obscure edge case causes Thunderbird to improperly configure SMTP?
  • Some sort of error caused by the Original Poster!??
  • add-ons, Anti-virus or other 3rd party software

Bug 1881998 Can't Get Thunderbird to sync up Oauth For Outlook 365 SMTP Server

QUOTE

Steps to reproduce:

I tried to reauthorize Outlook 365 SMTP Server on an email account I had deleted and added back.

Actual results:

I setup an Office 365 email address, but it messed up in the setup. I was able to OAuth Verify the incoming settings, but Thunderbird errored to before finalizing the smtp. So when I send emails, they fail, it states, Password to send emails is incorrect, please update password. However, if I am using Oauth then I have to to login, but Thunderbird Does nothing. Deleting the Account, and SMTP Server and adding back does nothing for me. I think I have to delete the entire profile, and thunderbird and clear temp files and then try to reinstall. The pain is that I have 7 accounts, so I will have to do it again.

Expected results:

Email Sent, and it needed to verify outlook 365 oauth it would popup a browser page and I would be able to login and verify so that I can send emails with outlook 365's smtp server.
