Best alternative to replace this in an existing project?

Since this project seems pretty much dead and there are some open bugs.

First I looked for a fork of kcfinder, but there seems to be no active developed project adoption.
So I search a replacement that is as easy as possible to migrate to.

I don't need much features.
A feature set equal to kcfinder but optimized for mobile phones and without the bugs would be enough.
A great thing would be, if the file system access is abstracted.
So you could replace the local file system storage for example with a ftp host or some hipster cloud storage.
Must be open source.

I found elFinder but this seems already to much for me.
