I try to recover my wallet that I have created with a passphrase a while back. But the current version doesn't let me do that. After entering the 12 words I see the passphrase screen for a very short period of time before it disappears. Next thing I see is a restored wallet without the passphrase.

You can use old wallet build that has passphrase. Also you can recover using desktop wallet.

Which version do you recommend? I tried older versions but they do not connect to the API anymore.

By desktop wallet you mean the Cirrus wallet? This one does not show my nfts.
