When unpublishing the homepage, a warning is shown that it is a bad idea to do so, as it will break the site's root.

When unpublishing the homepage using batch actions, this warning is not shown.

Reproducing:
Assuming a clean installation of Silverstripe CMS, version 4 & 5 are both affected.

  1. Log in to the admin
  2. Select to edit the homepage
  3. Attempt to unpublish the homepage
  4. Observe that a warning is shown
    1. Sidenote, the warning does not have a big "No, sorry, not what I want" button, hence, accepting the warning and not unpublishing the homepage is an unclear path
  5. Above the SiteTree, select "Batch Actions"
  6. Tick however many pages you want, but be sure to include the home page
  7. Select the batch action "unpublish"
  8. Hit "Go"
  9. Observe a standard "X amount of pages will be unpublished, are you sure?"
  10. Observe that there is no explicit warning about the homepage getting unpublished is shown
