gitsign fails due to no GPG key present on my Github account...

Trying gitsign on my local workstation and it throws

git commit --allow-empty --message="Signed commit"
error: gpg failed to sign the data:
gpgsm: can't sign using 'my github profile': No public key
[GNUPG:] INV_SGNR 1 my github profile
[GNUPG:] INV_RECP 1 my github profile

The gitsign docs says I don't need to setup GPG key on my account...

What am I missing?

Would you be able to share the output of git config --list?

This error looks like it's coming from gpgsm (https://github.com/gpg/gnupg/blob/dfa60c09f5cd992515df5fdb275dbee7f8f23b71/sm/gpgsm.c#L1833), which likely means a configuration issue resulting in gpg being invoked instead of gitsign.

ah ha! looks like a typo:

- gpg.509.program=gitsign
+ gpg.x509.program=gitsign

git config gpg.x509.program gitsign should fix it.
