I may be mistaken though I believe that's handled server-side. The client never actually is told what killed the entity, just the fact that the entity died. I will be finishing my coursework in a few weeks and uni just after the end of the month so will be free then to work on these.
For client-side only ones, I could possibly detect the first movement packet for dead entities to see added velocity from that depending on what info is returned to the player.
Currently, knockback does not affect ragdolls, but what if it did? (SekC Physics 0.1.0 on Minecraft Forge 1.12.2)
To reproduce, kill a zombie using a weapon enchanted with Knockback or Punch enchantments.
