Getting and setting the desktop/wallpaper background color is broken on macOS Sonoma (tested with macOS 14.0 through 14.2)

desktoppr color will always return cannot get color for each screen.

When you attempt to set the color, it will reset any background color that might be set manually in the Wallpaper pane in Settings to the default macOS blue.

Unfortunately, the way desktoppr works, it also resets the background color to macOS default blue when you change the image scaling with desktoppr scale.
