So, this is a strange bug. I use a hardware switch to shut off both my monitors on the main system. When turning them back on sometimes the main 4k display comes back on at the highest resolution, and sometimes it shows four desktops on it withe the top two being active (because I only have two monitors) and the bottom two being blank with nothing on the other monitor as well.
To fix this quickly I just keep arandr open on one of the desktops and switch to it. To fix the other issue restarting i3 via super+shift+R gets it into a regular but still 4k mode, and then just do step one.
I realize this is kind of EOL but I can't use Sway as it doesn't currently work with SynergyKVM and I use that to control another system on a monitor to the left. So until that is solved I'll be stuck on Regolith 2 for the foreseeable future (although I'm still very excited to hear about 3 though.)
