Helix-Blender Plugin

The Helix-Blender Plugin integrates Perforce's Helix Digital Asset Management (DAM) system with Blender, providing seamless access to version-controlled assets directly within the Blender interface. This plugin is designed to streamline the workflow for teams working on 3D content creation by combining the power of Blender with the robust asset management features of Helix DAM.

Installation

  1. Download the Plugin:

  2. Install the Plugin:

    • Open Blender.
    • Go to Edit > Preferences > Add-ons.
    • Click Install... and navigate to the downloaded .zip file.
    • Select the file and click Install Add-on.
    • Enable the plugin by checking the box next to Perofrce Helix-Blender.

  3. Launch the Plugin:

    • Go to the Perforce tab in Blender’s topbar.
    • Click Helix DAM to launch Helix DAM.

  4. Connect to DAM:

    • Make sure Helix Sync app is launched in background.
    • Click on Continue button in Helix DAM welcome page.
    • Enter your login credentials and click Log in.

Usage

  1. Browsing Assets:

    • You can open the assets from projects or search for assets stored in Helix DAM.
    • Preview assets and import them directly into your Blender project.

  2. Version Control:

    • Save your work to Helix DAM, with full version control support.
    • Manage different versions, revert to previous ones, and resolve conflicts as needed.

  3. Collaboration:

    • Work on shared assets with your team. The plugin will help manage changes and prevent conflicts.
    • Add metadata to your assets for better organization and retrieval.

Troubleshooting

  • Connection Issues:

    • Ensure your Helix DAM server details are correct.
    • Check your network connection and try again.

  • Asset Syncing Problems:

    • Make sure the plugin is enabled and properly configured.
    • Verify that your Helix DAM account has the necessary permissions.
