In my research, you will relive a recent (max 2-year old) optimization process of embedded systems software. I will ask you to talk me through it step by step and I will sometimes interrupt for clarification questions. I am eager to learn which steps you take, which subgoals you pursue, which information you consult, which tools you use, which challenges you face, and what you would need to improve the process. After the interview, I will ask a few more questions to deepen our understanding of your process. These insights will help you to understand and improve your optimization process. Afterward, I would be happy to summarize the process for you so you can reflect more on it. As a last part of the session, I have a short questionnaire in which you evaluate ways in which you could be supported during the optimization process. Your answers to these questions can guide the development of new tools. Furthermore, they can also inspire new ideas about how you can optimize your embedded systems software for energy consumption. In total, the research will take about 1 hour and at most 1,5 hours. A time investment that I believe to be useful for my research, yourself, and the road towards green software. |

Dear community,
In my master's thesis, I research how embedded systems developers optimize their software for energy consumption. I ask developers to explain and reflect on a recent optimization process so that they can learn from it. This also gives me insight into how support can be developed to help them in this process.
I hope that my thesis can be a small stepping stone in our joint adventure towards green software. If you have experience in optimizing embedded systems software I would love to interview you for this process. If you would like to help, feel invited to reply to this post or email me at [email protected]. You can also contact me on LinkedIn or we could schedule a (video)call. I will elaborate a bit more on my research in a comment, but feel free to ask any questions you have!
Kind regards,
Mark Rietvelt
