I am having trouble with timemapper. I'm a college professor and I've used it for over a year. I am planning on using it again this year in my class. This time I created a spreadsheet, and published it in google drive, but google won't let me log in inside timemapper. They don't trust the website.

The popup says "Sign in with Google Temporarily disabled for this app. This app has not been verified yet by Google in order to use Google Sign in."

That means I can't create a new timemap, only the spreadsheet.

@kasplin I see the error you're describing. However, you have another option for creating a TimeMapper Timeline. You can paste a link into the form box for "Paste Google Spreadsheet Link directly." But you have to select the right link, and TimeMapper's instructions are not clear on this.

  1. Publish your Google Sheet to the web using the File menu.
  2. Go to the Share link. Set it to: "Anyone with the link can view". (Note: I'd also strongly recommend you ask your students to share editing of their sheets with you so you can help them debug when they get stuck with date formatting or copying and pasting the geo-coordinate formula as they always do.)
  3. Copy the link you'd use to share with "Anyone with the link", and paste it into the TimeMapper Template form.
  4. Fill out the rest of the TimeMapper form. NOTE: My students and I noticed that the date format mm/dd/yyyy is generating incorrect dates--I think they're pitched ahead by one month. So we collectively decided it was better to set dd/mm/yyyy.
  5. Try out the TimeMapper link and make sure it's working.

I have two classes with students using TimeMapper and we've been battle-testing it all January 2019. There's one more problem we noted in this past month. The problem we noticed is that there are two different template samples, whose header bars do not match. The Template that goes with medieval philosophy appears to be outdated and doesn't contain the OSM geocoordinate scraper formula. I wish TimeMapper would update that to eliminate confusion, and take a slow, careful walk through of its instructions to clarify some things that aren't clear (like which link should be used to publish from Google Sheets, etc.)

Hi - I've followed these instructions carefully but am still hitting an issue that looks like Timemapper failing to connect to google. Error message 'The API developer key is invalid.' Anyone got any updates? Thanks
