As of now, there is no official solution for tracking data requests.

So far, community is using https://github.com/OpenDataSk/data-requests/issues , among other things.

Something official, but still lightweight and at least as usable as GitHub would be welcome.

Thanks for the suggestion, Peter! I think that this would be best tackled by NASES (because they now run data.gov.sk). Either 1) by providing such a tracker on their site (which may be an upcoming feature?), or 2) by getting them involved outside their site (e.g. on Github).

Let us include Ľubor Illek of NASES in the conversation (I just e-mailed him). It might be useful to put this in the wider context of this year's plans (such as the the idea to appoint a central data curator, etc.).

This Github account is "semi-official" at this point: it has been linked from the official .gov.sk pages, is run by & consulted with employees involved in OGP implementation but doesn't have any other official status (yet?). Right now, this is an experiment but I hope that Github presence will be seen as useful for the contact with the developer community, for collecting feedback from the wider public and for collaborative project development.

👍

And "as the saying goes": Better semi-official and working then official ... and useless. :)

@hanecak I think that if there's strong enough feedback from the developer community saying "we like Github and want you to use it more", the chances that platforms like this will become a normal communication channel for useful things increase.

So if you find something that you think works well or something that has potential, feel free to say it aloud. I believe that it might be useful to promote Github from the "tolerated experiment" to the "encouraged tool" (which is actively used by the government). Speaking of which, I really like the work of @benbalter (government evangelist at Github).

  1. If this is still something you feel strongly about, let's consider launching such a tracker somewhere, e.g. here: https://github.com/otvorenavlada/datasety
  2. We could create a semi-official (or fully official) OGP-related issue tracker (i.e., not just datasets, but a more general one), e.g. here: https://github.com/otvorenavlada/podnety (name TBD, I think we should do it in Slovak)
  3. Having a public issue tracker (for datasets or a more general one) could be added as an OGP commitment, what do you think?

Why now? OGP open data working group is meeting next week... I won't be there, so it's up to you to drive this.
