...I’m emailing because i’m running my class again that uses the NEURON Gui extensively and saw 2 students make an error that seems avoidable with an easy fix to the interface: In Point Process Manager, inevitably, some students end up typing in the amplitude of current injection to the i(nA) output box rather than the amp (nA) input box. The question I have is: “Is there a reason for people to be able to enter numbers into the “i (nA)” box at all, as I thought this box was for outputs and not for inputs. If not, then it seems like a very easy fix to make this box not allow entries (i.e. only be a readout, and possibly make it a slightly different, e.g. gray, background color [or otherwise differentiate it] to indicate visually that it is an output rather than input box).
...
And I responded:
Hi Mark,
Thanks for the suggestion. You make a good point.
Although there is a bit of visual indication that i might have a different nature than del, dur, amp, (ASSIGNED range variable as opposed to PARAMETER) it is certainly allowed to enter a number in the field and have it change out from under you. I will look into the possibility of having it just show the value with no user entry possibility.
