The kernel name in notebook toolbar takes up too much space (conda-store)

This extension eliminates most of the problems with long kernel names caused by long kernel names introduced by nb_conda_kernels/conda-store, except for one - the kernel button takes up too much space:

We may want to override it to use a shorter name. This could be a separate plugin. The relevant upstream code is here
