The purpose of this code is to set the background colour behind the status bar. This is because when I use a search display controller on the centre view controller, the background color of the center-container-view is exposed and does not match the background color of the center-viewcontroller.

The purpose of this code is to set the background colour behind the status bar because when I put a search display controller on the center-viewcontroller, the background color of the centerContainerView is exposed behind the status bar. So, I would like to set the backgroundColor of the centerContainerView to match the center-viewcontroller.
