It would be more useful if we could run Convergence as, say, a SOCKS proxy,
because then we could use any internet-facing program with Convergence.
For example, package managers would benefit from being able to trust the
repository servers reliably.

+1 the concept is simple and smart and can be used for a myriad of things. Package-managers but could also offer a reliable check for consuming server-server webservices.
I don't know about any similar applications that do the trick, Searching online for "distributed ssl verification" yielded no relevant results.
