I've noticed there is not much lava pools in nether, nor randomly scattered burning fires in big amounts, it is pretty dark and quite, the only danger is falling down the cliff.

Not much random lava for good reason, it causes vast floods. MC is lucky as it has different liquid spreading that doesn't flood as much.

See PilzAdam's repo for my mapgen PR, i didn't add a big lava ocean at the bottom, not sure why.
Fires are not present because my mapgen was not intended to be a MC nether clone.

Some random fires would do wonders for visibility. Since there isn't the ambient level 3 light in Minetest. Another trick could be to make the rack glow level 3, but that would be pretty hacky, and make no sense above ground.
