What if I use an Amcrest NVR for PoE?

[Scenario]

In the installation wiki for Mac, it says: "If the camera is behind an NVR, connect directly to the camera if possible."

This would be a dealbreaker as my 12 cameras rely on the NVR for Power over Ethernet. That, and I want to continue using the NVR's features until I know that this HomeKit solution is better.

What's the best guidance here?

Amcrest NVR
Cameras attached or recording through an Amcrest NVR (IP-based) can be used in Amcrest Plugin for Scrypted.
Each ‘Channel’ or (camera) Device attached to the NVR must be configured as separate Device in Amcrest plugin.
