Just a suggestion: add file icons, like in https://github.com/file-icons/atom

I think this is doable. However, I'll think more before implementing it.
As this in general is to "add something" before the file name, which a git integration also needs to do.
So this should be made as extensible as possible in the first place.

This is now possible as in 18f791d.
You just need to write a plugin to deal with this.
I am not going to implement exactly what you are asking here as it's not going to be in the core of netranger and I don't know what exactly you want. So I am going to close this issue.
