I read about 0.2.1 in the source code and on reddit, but I can't find any https://github.com/iamgreaser/iceball/releases

We don't host binaries on GitHub. We provide Windows builds at http://iceball.build/, Linux/BSD/OSX need to compile from source (details on how are in the wiki).

You can still create releases without binaries (This helps for tagging, viewing code for a previous version, etc.).

You can create tags, sure. There isn't really a "previous version" though.

I wanted to create a package for @openSUSE, but without versioned source tarballs, it doesn't seem to make any sense, especially in a multiplayer game where everyone has to use the same version I assume to avoid desyncs.

The game code is in Lua, and is loaded from the server on connect. Only the engine has to be relatively up to date, and that updates less often. We do need to start versioning the engine better though, and make the Lua code specify a minimum version to run. I'll start adding git tags any time I bump the version.
