Write proper integration tests

The number of runtimes is currently small enough that manually kicking the tires on each runtime doesn't take very long, but it would be nice to have a script that puts the currently selected runtime through its paces and validates the results. For example, it would be valuable to automatically launch a group of processes, listing the group, and verify that the group contains the expected members.
