A note about the free tier #232
Comments
ngl, i abhorred working on the licensing/payment shit. the idea i think about not having a trial was that i'd have to come up with something good enough so that people can't bypass it. so i skipped. BUT i guess i kinda forgot about the whole thing and now you're reminding me—or making me aware—that yeah, the UX is actually REALLY bad. if i download an app and can't use right away i'd be like wtf. trashbin. so yeah. thanks for the comment and the reminder, because i absolutely agree. something has to be done here. and something will. will keep you updated. |
I couldn't even see most of this message because it partially rendered off screen. And honestly, the part of the window I could see "I wanna abuse kV so bad" was repulsive. This perverse messaging and bizarre trial constraint leaves me unable to take this software seriously. |
using an app to move the menu bar icons out of screen estate like Bartender?
yeah there's a lot of bad humor in kV. in all my apps actually. and in all my open source work too. actually in my whole life. if kV doesn't solve any problem for you but hurts your feelings, have a look at the alternatives linked in the README. welcome. |
I love the idea of only allowing the free tier to be used in the afternoon, however, I'd recommend also doing an unlimited free trial for at least 24 hours.
I downloaded the app in the morning and was frustrated that I couldn't try out the app to see if it works for me. I think its important to let people try out KindaVim as soon as they download it so they can make a decision about whether to pay for it... Once they've tried it at least once I think making it sleep in the morning is very reasonable restriction for the free tier.
