We have art projects! We may want to use paintings, images, drawings, sculptures, fancy fonts or found art to make plywood cutouts on the 4'x4' CNC router, or sheet metal cutouts on the 4'x4' plasma torch, or plastic on a 3D printer.

So... we need to have some ways to convert raster (also called 'bitmap') images into a vector format.

There are many ways to do this:

• The free program Inkscape has a tool called 'Potrace'

• Adobe Illustrator

• Free web-based converters
