User Research?

I try to ask this question on every new web standard proposal - which real users have you spoken to about this?

I don't mean "which personas have you concocted?" I also don't mean "which business units have you talked to?" Nor do I mean "have you discussed this with other Googlers?"

Real users. Those people who both read and write websites. Have you asked any of Google's user researchers to research the users that this will affect?

Have you dreamed up the platonic idea of a problem you can solve? Or have you tried to understand the messy reality that exists with conflicting user desires?

Please - I beg of you - do some actual user research and then publish it.

Otherwise this proposal is nothing more than navel-gazing.

Why would they? Their users are the advertisers, we're the cattle
