The i3836 images apparently haven't been working for a while.
When running
pio runin the i386 images, platformio returnssh: 1: xtensa-lx106-elf-g++: not found.The error sounds a bit like some paths in the toolchain are not set up properly (was the mistake in previous toolchains from PIO), but it's probably not worth investigating considering the i386 image has ~500 pulls total (and most probably from CIs): https://hub.docker.com/r/esphome/esphome-base-i386/tags

Nobody has reported a bug about the image not working before, so it's probably not used except for very few cases.
Action: Remove i386 from builds
