Try using this option. I had a 401:
See ClientCredentialsGrant.php

if (!$client->isConfidential()) {
            $this->getEmitter()->emit(new RequestEvent(RequestEvent::CLIENT_AUTHENTICATION_FAILED, $request));

            throw OAuthServerException::invalidClient($request);
}

I have the same issue. I have followed the tutorial to the T, but there's this error lib/drupal.ts and there's no help in the docs or the github page

I had the same issue. In my case I was receiving error 400 and I got the error message like this (lib/drupal.ts):

Then looking in the next-drupal library I see it was due to wrong headers sent: https://github.com/chapter-three/next-drupal/pull/598/files

I hope it helps
