k3s-helmchart-generate

k3s is a lightweight Kubernetes distribution from Rancher. It ships with a Helm controller which provides a simple way to manage Helm charts using Custom Resource Definitions in Kubernetes. The documentation for using this CRD can be found in the k3s documentation under Using the helm CRD.

This script creates HelmChart resource definitions for use with k3s. The command line arguments closely resemble the behavior of helm install which allows users to preserve their existing Helm chart installation workflow while simplifying the process of generating the HelmChart CRDs for K3s.

Requirements

• Python 3.6 or higher
• PyYAML 5.1 or higher

Installation

First, clone the repository using git.

git clone https://github.com/blake/k3s-helmchart-generate.git

Change into the cloned directory.

cd k3s-helmchart-generate

Execute build_package.py's to create a self-contained executable using Python zipapp.

$ ./build_package.py
Collecting PyYAML>=5.1
  Using cached PyYAML-6.0-cp39-cp39-macosx_11_0_arm64.whl (173 kB)
Installing collected packages: PyYAML
Successfully installed PyYAML-6.0

Move the resultant executable, k3s-helmchart-generate.pyz, into your PATH.

mv k3s-helmchart-generate.pyz /usr/local/bin/k3s-helmchart-generate
