Instructions for installing BOUT++ can be found on the wiki here:
https://github.com/bendudson/BOUT/wiki/Installing-bout--

or a more detailed description is in the manual here:
http://www-users.york.ac.uk/~bd512//bout/user_manual.pdf

BOUT++ has been installed on Linux, FreeBSD, Mac OSX, and a few more obscure systems. Most of them have a package manager for installing the required libraries. An MPI compiler is essential; see the manual for instructions.

I recommend using the more recent version of BOUT++ hosted under "boutproject" here:
https://github.com/boutproject/BOUT/

bendudson added a commit to boutproject/BOUT that referenced this issue Sep 13, 2015
Call to var.allocate() added to Mesh::get(Field2D) and get(Field3D).

This fixes bendudson#43
