GPSTest does not collect any information about you or your device. Your settings preferences are the only information stored locally on your device, and no information is ever sent to any server associated with the GPSTest app (there is no such server).
If you use the "Inject Time" or "Inject XTRA" commands to refresh GPS assistance data, your device will contact the Network Time Protocol (NTP) and GPS One XTRA servers maintained by device manufacturers and their partners to fetch new time and GPS XTRA assistance data. These servers are normally contacted by your device periodically, these commands in GPSTest just force a refresh.
If you tap on the "Send feedback" feature (starting in v3.1.4), a new email will be opened in your email client that includes information about your device to help with troubleshooting problems, including:
- The make and model
- Android version
- GNSS Hardware year
- Your device's GPS location
- If your device supports logging raw GNSS measurement information
- If your device supports logging GNSS navigation messages
- If your device supports NMEA messages
- If your device supports injecting PSDS data
- If your device supports injecting time data
- If your device supports deleting assist data
You can remove any of this information from the body of the email to avoid sending it to the support email address for GPSTest, although it may impact my ability to help solve problems.
Please note that the Google Play version of GPSTest v2.0.0 and above uses the Android Maps API v2. To see Google's privacy policy for the Android Maps API v2, which is operated by Google, please see the Android Maps API v2 Terms of Service.
The F-Droid version of GPSTest currently uses MapTiler for map tiles. If you tap on the "Map" or "Accuracy" features which show maps within the app, GPSTest will send your location to their servers to retrieve the correct map tiles. Please see the MapTiler Privacy Policy for how MapTiler uses this information.
You can optionally submit information to the GPSTest Database, which crowd-sources general GNSS feature information for device models. No private information from your device is shared. Read more about this feature in this article.
