Extension behaves differently between dev and prod builds

My app works as expected when using the built-in dev command. But, when I run the build command, the extension has some different (missing) functionality and I can't seem to get a console.log command to run.

Are console.log's being stripped out on build?
I'm still seeing the expected client-side code running. But, it seems like it's losing the ability to communicate from my contentScript code to my background.ts code.

Scratch that. Was a personal issue.
