I did not yet try it by myself, but I expect f-droid to run on anbox.

Maybe it would even be possible, to ship anbox with f-droid preinstalled.

Actually my Issue was about the website, not the application.
My suggestion was to add f-droid as source to install applications, as they only mention Play Store and manuall apk installation.

When I tried to install and run anbox on my Ubuntu virtual machine, it failed, as the snap seems to be broken: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/anbox/+bug/1884810

So I installed Anbox in my VMWare, and tried f-droid - it works very well!
So I think it should be mentioned as free alternative to Google Play...
