Given that there hasn't been much activity in this repository for several years and the open PRs ( #3 , #2) weren't merged, just to let you know that I have continued the development in a separate fork,

Changes include integrating these 2 PRs, Python 3 support and adding an example.

If there is some interest @akuchling I would be certainly happy to integrate these changes back here.

Meanwhile, if it was possible e.g. to upload to PyPi the version that has Python 3 support that might be helpful...
